End of Journeying Prayer

Pilgrim Psalm

Better is one day in your courts, than a thousand elsewhere;

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour;

no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you

Psalm 84:10-12

Prayer of Examen - where did we notice God today?

(adapted from Jesuitsource.org)

PAUSE

Begin with a pause and a slow, deep breath or two;

become aware that you are in the presence of the Holy.

THANKSGIVING

What am I especially grateful for in this past day . . .

PETITION

Lord, I’m about to review my day;

I ask for the light to know You Lord, and to know myself, as You see me.

REVIEW

Where have I felt true joy today?

What has drawn me toward God today?

What has troubled me today?

What has taken me away from God today?

Now pay particular attention to one invitation from God today – either …

  • allow God to speak to you further through the thing that caught your attention;
  • Or … maybe stick with any clear sense of invitation you already feel.

In the quiet of your heart, have a conversation with God, allowing him to awaken your senses and your imagination, so that you grasp his invitation to you today.

RESPONSE

In light of my review, what is my response to God? Offer your prayer of response

A LOOK AHEAD

What do you need from God as you look to follow God tomorrow?

Prayer of St Columba

Be a bright flame before me, O God

a guiding star above me.

Be a smooth path below me,

a kindly shepherd behind me

today, tonight, and for ever.

Alone with none but you, my God

I journey on my way;

what need I fear when you are near,

O Lord of night and day?

More secure am I within your hand

than if a multitude did round me stand.

Amen.
